Hi!
I'm Sanna Vakkilainen, a Helsinki-based artist living and working in Finland. I primarily work with oil colors on canvas while also exploring other mediums such as acrylics and watercolors.
My practice sits within expressive abstraction, where color, gesture, and intuitive brushwork take the lead. Music plays an important role in my process—rhythm and melody guide my movements, creating paintings filled with flow, repetition, and energy.
Drawn to the openness of abstraction, I invite viewers to find their own narratives—landscapes, figures, or fleeting moments—shaped by personal emotion and perception. My work aims to evoke joy alongside a wide range of feelings.
A full-time artist for seven years, I graduated from the Free Art School in Helsinki in 2019. I have exhibited widely in Finland and the United States, with works shown in New York at Agora Gallery (2024) and at Art Basel Miami (2022). My paintings are held in private collections and in the Finnish State Art Collection, and I have completed large-scale commissions for Flow Festival in Helsinki (2024–25).
Bliss (2022), painted for my solo exhibition at Porvoo Art Hall Gallery, marked a turning point in my career and led to my U.S. representation—celebrating color, emotion, and expressive freedom.
Please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in collaboration or in any of my paintings. I also paint commissioned artworks.
